I still feel like its a dream… every morning I wake up and think “Did we really do it? Did Jamie and I really get a dog?”. Then I see my sweet little puppy’s face and realize that it’s true. I’m not dreaming!
That’s right folks we are leaving on a trip through Mexico and Central America and we got a puppy. Now, along with all of the prepping and planning for our trip, we have a little puppy to take care of. Jamie works from home so it was the obvious choice to have Reina (the pup) stay with him. However, two days after we got her I wasn’t quite sure we were going to make it. Reina was being a true, new puppy and getting herself acquainted with her new digs by whining and relieving herself all over the house! For those couple of days Jamie would frantically text me that she had done this or done that. Then I would frantically search the internet for training ideas and forward anything I could to him. It was stressful, but Reina is a sweetheart and has grown by leaps and bounds since we first got her.
She is seriously the perfect dog for our trip. Shes a little brindle colored mut from Ensenada, Mexico and she loves loves loves the car. Which is a giant plus for obvious reasons. 🙂 Reina sits, stays (most of the time) and is fabulous around other people and dogs. She even loves to hang out with the kiddos!
So, now that we have a dog coming with us the planning has gotten a little more intense. We have a responsibility to this little creature and have to include her in everything that we do on the trip. Before, we would just be able to get up and go on a hike or go paddleboarding but now we have little Reina to think about. We really don’t know what we are going to do when we both want to do something that she can’t but I’m sure we will figure it out on the way.
As for the rest of our planning, it’s coming along swimmingly! Jamie has been constantly working on the 4runner, updating this and fixing that. I love that he can fix things up like that, it’s very comforting. We have a semi set plan for Baja and are working on our plans for Mexico. A couple months ago (same weekend we got Reina) we took a little trip down to DiscoverBaja and got hooked up with two FMM visas good for 180 days and car insurance.
It feels so good to be finalizing everything, I still can’t believe that I quit my job a month ago. Seriously!? After 2 yrs and 7 months we are finally hitting the road!? No way! It is so surreal to me. I have been waiting for this day for so long and it is literally just around the corner.
I’m excited to keep everybody updated on our progress and will try to write as often as possible.
Catch ya on the flip side!
