Nicaragua: Then and Now

Well its safe to say that I really enjoyed Nicaragua in the “green season”, it’s lush and well, green.  Although we were only there for a few days it was a nice change from the hustle and bustle of Costa Rica.  I knew that Costa Rica was a huge tourist destination and went in comfortable with that fact.  I enjoyed it for what it was and after having been there 3 times now, I think I might be set for life.

100_7869100_7864Although I knew just how different Costa Rica was from the other Central American Countries I was still surprised when we got back into Nicaragua.  Our grocery bills where automatically cut in half and we only paid to camp once.   Also, the people are so different in Nicaragua, so, so nice.  Don’t get me wrong, the Ticos are very nice as well, but they do seem a little jaded when it comes to foreigners, probably because there are so many expats there.  The Nicaraguans and Salvadorans and Guatemalans are all so excited to wave and give a huge smile when we drive by.  I also get a kick when they see Reina’s head sticking out the window of the car.  Reina gets one of two reactions, either the locals scream and back away in fear or they bark at her.  The barking has happened so often that Jamie has started doing it too.

100_7867We aren’t doing much exploring on the way back up.  There isn’t a rush to get back home but there are some things that need to be taken care of sooner rather than later.  So, we’ve decided to just stick to the same route and cruise home at a much faster pace than we did to get down.  In the interest of not boring you with repeat posts I’ve decided to compare and contrast our first time in Nicaragua to our second time.  Enjoy!
